Any Canadians out there care to answer this one? What's the percentage of copper cents to dumpers up there? The reason I ask is that I get a lot of Canadian cents mixed in with my bank loads here in northern Maine, and the overwhelming majority of them are keepers (I still separate them out into another pile). If that's the case up there, it seems like it would almost be practical to stockpile the coins without bothering to sort. Just sort of wondering out loud here...

Its about 40-50%. Problem I have is their are no dumping machines here where I'm at and re rolling pennies SUCKS. I've hit 90% find rate in some boxes. I had a buddy call me once and said he had some in his parents house in his old bedroom. He moved out in 94. All copper,called him my friend for awhile. Lol

The total results are as follows:

200 rolls of pennies, 10,000 pennies total sorted;

2916 (29.16%) copper total;

596 (5.96%) Canadian dated 1942-1977 (98% copper, 0.5% tin, 1.5% zinc);

2174 (21.74%) Canadian dated 1978-1996 (98% copper, 1.75% tin, 0.25% zinc); and,

146 (1.46%) American (including 4 wheats) dated 1909-1981 (95% copper, 5% zinc).

Im in around the 30% rate here in Ottawa. The rates are different accross the counrty.

Around 41-43% all told.

Would you believe 83%?

Well... I guess it really depends on how you look at the numbers. Out of the 75,000+ coins I have searched I have found a grand total only 60 Canadian cents. Of those 60, there were 50 copper (83%), 5 zinc (8%) and 5 steel (8%). Those newer Canadian cents don't make it to Southern California very often.
