Nice toning, but I see some slight wear on the eagle's breast feathers. I'd say AU-55.

AU55-58. Little bit of wear on the high points showing a breaking in the luster. Looks great Spence.

So..., if this thread is supposed to help educate us newbies, at what rating do the rim nicks and what appears to be rim wear (thought light) start to affect the grade?

You've got to appreciate that I like being educated, but I (at this point) have no desire to get sucked into the grading thing, so if it is going to happen its only going to happen gently and (at least at the start) without me realizing it. :)

It's a great coin but I don't like the horizontal scratches.

Looks maybe wiped/cleaned.

The nicks you are seeing are fairly common on big dollars.. i dont know if the would be enough to make a difference.. the obv has a small cud on the rim under the date.. sorry for the pm rich.. it was suppoed to be a quote
