key dates for nickels?

Postby mrrosado » Tue Oct 02, 2012 9:56 pm

I found out that my friend collected coins when he was a kid. He blew the dust off a box he had labeled "coin collection". He has a whole bunch of stuff. He has many buffalo nickels and v nickels. What are the key dates he should look for?
I like collecting Gold and Silver. I prefer the Silver stuff. God Bless You.

look for a 1913 V nickel.
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

V Nickel:
Key Dates: 1885, 1886, 1912-S
1913 - Only 5 are known to exist....

Buffalo Nickel:
Key Dates: 1913-S Variety 2
1936-D Three and 1/2 legs on Buffalo
1937-D Three-legged Buffalo

Borrow a coin guide from your local library, that would help identify any semi-key coins.

Thanks! If I find anything cool I'll post pictures here for you all to see. I sent a v Nickel to my mom. It was a 1912. I was off by one year. My friend found it in his room. He did not even know it was U.S. Currency.

If it had a mint mark, 1912 "d" or "s" is a semi-key.
