what is a good price to assume for an average roll of 1950's nickels and a roll or 1940's nickels?

I don't think the market is really defined yet. Galenrog says that he can get $10/roll (I think) in his neck of the woods. I check on ebay periodically just to see where the market is at and it seems that prices are anywhere from 2x to 5x FV. The list below might help you get an idea of the values:

Come to the Metro Detroit area and search boxes, you will get all you want at FV. They are plentiful and I dump them. I even get them as change in the vending machines at work on occasion. Boxes of nickels are very easy to procure here too.

As far as a good price, anything at or below FV...

Regional markets are very different. I have managed lately to get rid of common and no date Buffs at $12.50/roll. Have not sold older Jeffs in a while, but expect to start negotiations at $7 for 1950-1959, and $9 for 1938-1949. My regular nickel guys have finally discovered coin roll hunting, so several potential sales have bit the big one.

No heartburn. I still have buyers for proofs found in circulation, errors and the like. Plus there are other coin clubs that do not regularly check Craigslist. When they do, we can negotiate. If we can agree on a price, even better.

They only bring 2.50 to 3 per roll at one of my local coin clubs.
