Mini Auction Score on .999 Canadian Nickels

Postby Silver Runner » Wed Feb 13, 2013 10:35 pm

Today I scored 158 Canadian nickels all from the late 1960's for the opening bid of $5. I have no clue why no one else bid... The coins were in nice shape, and they went for much less than their $7.90 FV. I think many people have no clue that:
1) the exchange rate is in Canada's favor now (slightly)
2). the intrinsic value of .999 Canadian nickels

I know it was a small score, but I was happy with it.

Good score. I once won an auction on eBay for four .999 Ni Canadian quarters for the opening bid of $0.01. Shipping was only a buck so I was happy. I hope you didn't get stuck with a big shipping charge for your batch of nickels.

Nice. It sounds ridiculous, but if they were steel I might have been willing to part with them for that price. It's not like 'm going to go to Canada to spend them. And of course a lot of people don't know about nickel...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

Yup, people still think the exchange rate is 0.8

People also still tend to think that the British pound is 2.0, when it has been 1.6 for several years now. One can pickup some pretty great deals on cupronickel 10 pence, two shillings and half crowns as some are sold closer to face.

I remember when the British pound was 3x to a Canadian dollar.
