Question on SBA Dollars

Postby aristobolus » Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:11 pm

I saw in a post from last year that Susan B Anthony dollars are still available at banks. What would they be available in? Boxes? Bags? What amounts? $1000.00? $100.00?

My experience is that some banks have these in their vault, or more likely Sacagaweas. Based on their behavior and reading between the lines, it seems like its cost prohibitive to them to send them back to the Fed. For example, I was coin roll hunting and asked for half dollars from a bank, and the head cashier was thrilled to get them out of the vault for me.

Banks do have the technical ability to order coins, and some will do this for you if you have a good relationship with them. (Not sure about the coin shortage.) But probably they can just order dollar coins, and you will get Sacagaweas, if that matters to you. Technically you could get Ikes or Peace or Morgans too.

I have found some good things going for halves. At least once a year I will get some Ike’s or a couple rolls of dollar coins. Out of which there will be a few SBA Do it as coin roll hunting. Lol

Ask the local bank. Officially they are still in circulation. Most of the time they are mixed with the little copper dollars.
Silver Monometalism is the most permanent and stable form of money the world has seen. Natural law and history prove silver value is best multiplied by gold and best divided by copper. It is only in this counterfeit currency time when the natural law appears suspended.

When I worked at a casino I was able to nab a few hundred that someone cashed in. Only one 1981 in the whole batch.

Prob boxes. They come in rolls of $25.

Dollar comes in rolls of $25, boxes of $1000, or bags of $2,000. The SBA's are not separated from the rest of the dollars so there will be sacagawea as well as presidential dollars.

If you want SBAs, you will have to sort them from the other small dollars. Neither the banks, cash management companies such as Loomis and GARDA, nor the Federal Reserve will do it for you. Have fun.

I've looked for halves a lot over the years and do remember once that I got a bunch of rolls ($10 face each). Included with the bunch was a $25 face roll of non-Ike dollars. I went back to the teller when I discovered the error and she told me not to worry about it.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

The newer coins from the mint are being sold in $25 roll. $100 bag and $250 box.
