It's about time...

After getting box, after box, after box, after box, after box, etc., etc., etc. of 2011 nickels, I was more than happy to take $150 in CWRs off the hands of my CU.

One roll was wrapped in a different paper than any of the others, and when I cracked it open I could barely believe my eyes...

14 Buffalo Nickels (10 with readable dates)
19 War Nickels

The remaining 7 nickels were all 1940-1942.

I had never never found a Buffalo Nickel in the wild before, and then *poof* I’ve got a herd.

Way to go. Hope it happens to you again.

I'd imagine that you would encounter a lot of great finds in Vegas.

Sweet find! Congrats.

Surprisingly, not so much. One of my coin dealers said he used to find good stuff when the casinos still used coins in the slot machines (since, I guess the coins would essentially just circulate within each casino for years). Since they've all switched to paper receipt pay-outs, it seems that finds are about what you'd get in any other major city.

Then again... there might be a lot of great finds, but about 80% of the banks I hit have at least one teller who collects coins (or at least say they collect coins), so they might be getting picked out before I have a chance.

That makes sense. What about trying N.L.V. or Henderson?

I imagine they'd be the same (most banks have a main vault/distribution center in the valley that feeds all branches). Maybe one of these days I'll take a little jog up one of the small mining communties up north and see if I have any luck there.
