I am going to be sorting thru 10 boxes of Kennedy halves... any recomendations on which ones to pull out? I would really appreciate the input. Up till now I have been just taking out the PRE - 1970 coins.

1970 are 40% and are NIFC

1987 is one of the lowest minted.

Also, 2002 and beyond are NIFC, and any "S" mints. I don't know if there's any premium on them but I keep the best ones and am trying to fill up a book of just 2002 and beyond.

I'm new to all this so this may sound silly... what does NIFC mean? And thank you for the info.

Thanks... does that mean I should be pulling all the "nifc" coins and putting them aside?

If your lucky you can make some money off the bay collecting all the dates in BU condition and trying to sell them. I have some set aside but honestly have no idea who would buy them. I put a bag of $10 of BU NIFC halves up at auction for $12 and no one wanted them.

I wonder why, the mintage is so much lower on the 2002's and up vs many other coins we collect.

I have only sorted thru $1500 of the 1/2's - I sorted them by year. I still have $3000 more to go thru and $1000 more coming this week. I have to get a strategy for sorting the 1/2's other than just pulling the silver. Cause this is time consuming. Anyone want any 1/2's? I got buckets and buckets :-) Which are the salable ones? I have seen the lower mintage ones being sold for a little of a premium. Help... I am a newbie in over my head 0:-)

easy as Sunday morning...just keep the silver and dump the rest....unless its a 1987...keep those but I dont know why....just so few of them I guess is the reason. When you say sorted by year do you mean you are date checking? many of them can just be edged checked...but a noob might want to date check until you are confident in identifying the silver clad edge. Good luck.

When I first started I looked at the dates of each and every one. Now I just edge check and dump. The NIFC 2002 and up are not really worth the time to keep.

Since I was date checking in the beginning I was able to complete the Whitman folders for Kennedy halves. I cherry picked the best looking ones as I went. I will just pass these on to my daughter.

1987 were only released in mint sets . They were not released as regular issue. That is why people keep them even thought they do not command a big premium.
