Coinstar dime dumping safe?

Having been recently burned with dimes by the counter at my favorite dump bank I'm considering using the Coinstars for these. Anybody have any advice on the reliability of the counts using Coinstars with dimes?

There are no machines that I would dump dimes in.

I tried out one with a mixed bag worth $250 with pennies through halves that I had counted out so I could get an Amazon e-certificate and it came out to the penny!

Hope you aren't doing a cash voucher.... they charge 9.8% fee

Wish I could find one that prints Walmart certificates.

HA HA NOT FUNNY!!!

At least when I fill that beast up at Walmart and use a gift card I get another $0.10 per gallon off. And on a prepaid card I don't have to keep restarting the pump every $100, it just keeeeeps on going.

I've had good luck dumping dimes in a DeLaRue machine at my LCU. I know because I dump 999 dimes. One is always silver out of 1000 for me :)

I wouldn't. Coinstar machines habitually miscount dimes. When sorting dimes make sure you get the clear wrappers and edge sort.

Yah my rule with dimes is always dump in rolled form. I see a lot of dimes in my penny bags. It's just to risky to dump dimes through a machine.

Dump small amount and check for accuracy, but you already losing 9% by using CoinStar. I have had problems with a DeLaRue accuracy at my local CU. so i went to different branch. Also don't overfill the coin hoppers.

I tried a $50 batch at two dump locations (don't know the machine types, guess I should ask) and both test failed to accurately count them. Lots of dimes being counted as pennies. It's a pain the get the banks to reconcile their accounts when that happens and suddenly you become "that guy".

How do you guys deal with this? Search on for more reliable counters or start rolling?

Thanks.

I do edge sorting when I can and just sell the boxes back as original rolls except for the ones I cut and re-taped. But I still get dimes in bags that just scream to run the #22 wheel.
