What's up with this "Nickel" Nickel

I cracked open a tight bank wrapper of nickels last night and out popped this odd coin. It appears to be a Nickel plated 2005 Nickel, but it certainly is quite different than all the rest.

Please see the photos below for what I mean. I don't know if it was an error in making the coin, it missed a step in the metal process, or someone thought it would be cool to electroplate one? I am not familiar how modern Nickels are made, though I thought it was just a blend of both Copper and Nickel or CuNi. Any insight to what's up with this coin would be appreciated.

These pictures are from my scanner and don't really do the color justice, it almost looks Gold in person, but I don't know the best way to illustrate the color difference with a picture. I'll try to upload a picture from my camera later and see if that makes any noticeable difference.
