"WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – JUNE 13, 2013 – Today the Royal Canadian Mint officially opened its plating facility expansion and the Hieu C. Truong Centre of Excellence for Research and Development. The plating expansion will enable the Mint to increase production of multi-ply plated steel blanks and other advanced plated products by two billion pieces per year"

Since Canadian coinage is mostly plated nickel with a little bit of pure nickel left in circulation, I'd thought I'd post it here.

This should allow the mint to "recover" pure nickel coinage at a much faster rate as they now have the capacity to punch out an extra 2 billion steel blank nickel plated planchets to maintain minimum circulation of 5 cent pieces (I think they just plain gave up with the pennies)

Keep on hoardin'.
