Hey guys,

I was wondering what everybody thought was a fair price to pay for a single 2009 nickel (p or d).

Thanks guys!

That's easy. Five cents. :)

Seriously though....I don't collect them unless they are in pristine, near-perfect condition with very light minimal scratches/dings. Then they get rolled when I reach 50. I collect two rolls of each coin and mintage as each year goes by (one to sell, one to keep)...and only those in excellent condition; in my book, that would be approx MS65 or higher.

Interesting. I am suprised you find so many. I have one single 2009 p nickel and isnt really in perfect shape either. I found it in spare change, I dont really search nickels. But I do like the 2009 ;)

Yeah I hear ya man. Though 2009 dimes are a little easier to find and still low mintage. As well as the state quaraters, puerto rico, washington d.c. and Guam I believe. All higher mintage than the nickel but still relatively low mintages.

I search alot of nickels. Finally found my first 2009 D two nights ago. To me it is priceless. . . however, i do see them going for between $0.50 and $1.50 on ebay all the time.

I agree its hard to put a price on them. I do however see 'buy it now' BU rolls for $10 on ebay and have seen them go cheaper in the auction. So they can be had for about .25 cents a piece and you can defintely get them cheaper.

Probably one of my favorite coins to be honest. I actually really like the 2009 lincoln series also. I dont know about you guys but I've been lucky to find a lot of the 2009 pennies in really good condition. I dont think most people are aware of their mintage, or really care. I think the 2009 nickel has more exposure.

But on that note, its kinda odd how low the numbers are most RC'ers report for finding 2009 nickels. I mean if anybody is gonna find them its gonna be people here haha. But still most people report finding a few if any at all. I really wonder where they all went. I wouldnt be suprised if bank tellers got on that boat too.

I was in a coin shop the other day and there was an unsealed roll of 2009 nickels (forget which MM) for sale for $60.00!

I am at less than 10 found total, I think, and even of those a few were so grungy already that they had to go into a little bag to protect the other coins from the gunk.

I still think down the road the 2009 nickel will be similar to the 1950D nickel.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone.

Wow! Thats pretty crazy IMO to pay $60 for a roll of those. I dont know if many people can justify paying that. They're obviously best found in that wild, but thats rare. I agree I do think it will be like the 1950D nickel. Maybe in 'real terms' actually rarer. Since it doesnt see like people we're actively collecting the 1950d nickel, in 1950, unlike the 2009 nickel situation we see today. Who knows though, If people need the money they'll probably resort to cashing in their 2009 roll of nickels.

I remember somebody was speaking on numis' value one time in regards to melting to numis gold coins. Somebody on here made an excellent point that if you melted an 'numis gold' coin, then you'd totally be messing with the 'real mintage' numbers and it would cause a coin to be rarer without the subsequent price rise, which is obviously not good. I thought that was interesting. Its almost like the 'real numbers' of 2009 nickels is slow because so many people were collecting them right off the bat. Like the numbers for finding them in the wild should be much higher but in actuality they're not.

I wish I knew where the 2009's are hiding. I've searched nearly a $1,000 in nickels over the last year and a half. That's nearly 20,000 nickels. Have not found one. I've found V nickels, buffs, war, foreign and even a plastic play penny that was the same diameter as a nickel, but no 2009s. I remember reading a long time ago that some were popping up in Puerto Rico. My GF found one on the floor at her parents house. LOL, it wasn't too badly damaged. That's the only one I've seen in the wild (besides mint sets).

That really is amazing. Who knows where they are. Probably Puerto Rico and Guam

i got lucky, got a whole brick of 2009's. peeled a few rolls from one end, all unc's, pulled a random roll in the middle, same-same, as one on the other end.

so that brick went to the bottom of the stack where it shall sit in its low low moisture storage for quite a while.

april 4th is an hour away, and thats the closing day for public comment on coin composition, meaning the time for the 75/25 nickel draws nigh to debasement.

get to those banks this week, guys

I must be getting lucky, I've gotten about 40 2009 nickels in each of the last 3 boxes. Maybe just beginners luck!

Saw an ad where Skyline is selling the '09's for $99 a roll. Occasionally you can find them on Ebay for $8 - $12 per roll

2009-D's were getting so common when I was roll searching that kept a "pristine" roll of them, and another 45-50 or so that I can trade if the need ever arose. :)

Almost started a thread about this...

Can anyone explain the low mintages? Really seems worth it IMO to keep these guys separate...I wish I had known about these mintage figures back in 2009!

It's the Recession. When the economy gets tough, people get desperate for any spending money. They gather up all the loose change jars, all those small coins that gathered dust during boom times, and take it to the bank for spending money. This boosts the circulation rate of existing coins, which swells the number of coins actively circulating. This decreases the demand for new coins, and the Mint lowers their production rates accordingly. When the economy recovers, people stop making such an effort to spend every coin they have, change jars fill up again and the circulating coin supply shrinks, causing the Mint production rates to go back up.

I have hand sorted about $2500FV of nickels and I have not seen a single 2009. I am astounded that some of you have been getting so many. Must just be my region, I guess.

I've seen the same lately ( always ?). A $100 box of nickels has 2000 coins. I might see one or two 2009 coins from it. The 2009 cents have been almost as depleted too. I find a few of them per a box and they are always in crummy shape.

I have @ a half of roll each of the P and D's that I have found. All in very good shape. As for the 2009 pennies, I'm still finding a lot of them in excellent condition.

I got somewhat lucky and found 15 mint 2009p cents in one CWR! I have about 30 total in AU from rolls, and I've only sorted 100$ FV in pennies...Im in Florida if you want to hunt them down ;) ...still no 2009 nic's though, which is a shame to say the least

you should have sold it right away. they were going for like 50 bucks a roll for a while.
