1960-1969 Nickels

Over the past several months I have had an increased interest in coin searching, which I have done little of in the past few years. One thing I have noticed is the decrease of older nickels. 1959 and earlier.

My question, before I start pulling them, is whether there is any interest in nickels from 1960-1969, other than the typical errors that we all look for. I am not looking for RC members to buy them, I am inquiring if RC members have encountered potential collectors.

If you have encountered interest, please detail what they were interested in.

I currently divide Jeff’s a few ways. 1938-1949, 1950-1959, War, proofs, and errors.

Note: I am currently seven coins short in the Dansco Jefferson Nickel album. That is in about 30 boxes.

I save all nicks but you may want to start keeping the "newer" older ones

I have failed to find Any buyers. For solid date rolls. Much less,,newer, older, .

I know someone who buys Jefferson nickels from 1938-1959 (no 1959-D's) for seven cents each. He doesn't buy those from 1960 and later and does quite a bit of business. I think he has about 6-7 employees. Sorry I couldn't give something more positive to you about those in the 1960's. I don't even save them as they are only 25% nickel.

I do save the Canadian nickels that are .999 nickel (with some exceptions) up through 1981. I think those will really be worth something sometime in the next 5-10 years or so.

I have been searching nickels off and on for almost 13 years. I too have noticed a decrease of older nickels (pre 1960). I am partially responsible for that decrease!

As for 1960-69, I only keep the high grade ones. Those that are UNC or at least solid AU. The coin must have excellent eye appeal on both sides. I estimate that I have found close to 100,000 Jeffersons from this decade. Of that amount, I have kept only a thousand. I am thinking about selling them at flea markets.

One small word of advice : keep 1938 AND 1950 separate from the other years. If you are selling, charge a premium for those years because of VERY LOW mintage. Also keep 1939D and 1939S separate from your bulk piles.
