I have a coin show that is selling "common" uncirculated" nickel rolls at $3 and less common at $4. These are listed below. Can somebody tell me if this sounds like a bargain? It seems to me that ANY 50 year old roll at melt value makes some sense

1962 D, 1958, 1964, 1963, 1963 D, 1965.

if they are .999 Ni then it would be good but I think you can still find many of the 50 year old nickels in circulation. Uncirculated would be neat though

I bought a 1962 D, 1958, and mixed date. I too find several 40's and 50's in rolls but rarely quality.

One challenge of looking at older UNC nickle rolls is to see if they have full steps. I've never been excited about the full step thing, but they do seem to carry a premium over just plain UNC. There are also full step nickel clubs as well as PCGS and NGC notating their holders as such for those that qualify.

I do know that some of the dates in the 50s and 60s are notorious for full steps or no steps. Probably ways of familiarizing yourself with the concept. Armed with a little knowledge and a decent magnifier, you'll never know. At either price, it's not a bad deal regardless.

Wonder if those are original rolls or ones put together after the owner went through them for interesting finds.

The roll of 1958's is a good deal. I believe the mintage for that year was 18 million.

I was real happy with the 1958 roll. There were several full steps. The mixed roll was basically AU's that had been picked through. Thanks for the advice.

now if it was a roll of 1950 D nicks for that price.. THAT would be a score!
