Those '65 quarters do have incredible staying power. I was around when they first came out and remember the controversy about how well they'd wear after a few years in circulation. Personally, I was hoping they'd crack in two, dissolve in water, become toxic, not accepted by vending machines, alter the earth's rotation and generally PO the general public. Wrong on all counts except the PO the public part.
Interesting to see that byproduct of their introduction so many years ago is still true. Wonder if future generations will remember the Good Old Clad Days when we ultimately switch to nickel-plated steel blanks as the Canadians have already done. "Those 2015 steel quarters really PO everyone." Nothing can or should replace silver in our monetary transactions. Nothing.
