Teller Surprise Today

Postby zerocd » Sat Dec 31, 2011 6:55 pm

I went to put my latest change accumulation in the coin counter today and when at the teller, he says, "got something for you"

He says "I have $61.00 in large dollars (Eisenhowers)

I was hoarding Eisenhower clads as a piggy bank and finally dumped all I had last summer, about $4500.00 so I really didn't want it. (bought PM's)

But, they are easy to use and there's always the chance for fun. "I'll take them"

three envelopes of $20 and a single.

First envelope, nothing special and same for second.

The last envelope had a dirty 1923 Peace Dollar which made my day!

Happy New Year!

Great find! I have been asking for large dollar coins, but my banks rarely have them. Only have found clad Ikes.

"got something for you" ....."I really didn't want it."

Never turn them (tellers) down, they will stop saving for you.

Oh I agree, haven't been posting but I'm an old hand at this. I have cultivated dozens of tellers at 6 local banks and about 25 total branches. I been on a sorting break and don't hit the whole route right now. But I have to say, you won't get teller freebies unless you are seeing tellers. It's like the lottery but with far better odds and mostly small pay outs but always interesting. I collect and hoard and it's all good!

Nice surprise. I get them from time to time also. Two reasons to get them: 1) Check for silver and errors. 2) Give them away to grandchildren. Small hands need large objects to grasp. Have way too many right now. Off to CL they go.

One of my tellers said I got something for you, 3 $20 Dollar Rolls.

There the old $20 paper rolls you put 'big' Dollars in. They were sealed shut by tape too. I got all excited that they could be all Morgans or have some mixed in.

But sadly it was only 3 Rolls of Ikes.

I get $1.05 each for however many circulated Ikes I bring in to the local coin shop. I think they sell them for $1.15... Haven't found any silver yet, but I'm never gonna turn one down. And if I ever ask for coins, I always include "well, do you have any big dollars?" They know what I mean... and usually don't have any.
