lemonade stand SCORE!

Postby uthminsta » Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:56 pm

My girls (7 and 8 years old) had a lemonade stand yesterday at grandma's house. An elderly lady paid for some lemonade with a 1964 Kennedy half dollar! There's more to the story, but I just thought I would share that part first. More later.

Heck, they should have offered her a liitle shot of something in that lemonade for that. :D
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

Well, the rest of the story is:
My wife called me and said "hey how much is this worth?"
So I grinned, and said "Well, $11 or so. Are you going to her house to ask if she has more?"
(the lady was someone my wife knows from the neighborhood)
She said "Well, yeah! But what should I say? How much should I offer?"
(good girl!)
I said "Tell her 'My husband collects coins and I noticed you paid with an old coin. He's going to be very excited to get that! I would love to purchase any more of these you have. I will even pay you quite a bit more than their face value if you would like to sell some.' So you can pay her 20x or so on any halves, quarters, or dimes which is better than she would get at any local coin or pawn shops."
She went back and the lady didn't know. "It was just in my coin purse, and I thought the girls would like the half dollar."
"Do you have any more, ma'am?"
"No, honey, I don't think so."
"Well can I pay you more for the one you gave them?"
"Oh honey, no, that's quite alright."

My wife got home this weekend after their trip. She had gone through her brother's $200-plus jug of coins, and pulled out two silver dimes, and... get this... over a hundred copper cents. The dimes are awesome, but the fact that she sat through all that and brought me home a baggie full o' copper makes her the best wife ever.

Very nice story

Always amazes me when people have the kindness not accept more money after being tracked down

I went to a bank once and asked for halves. She had 1 and I told her I would buy it. She hands back 2 quarters and a 1923 Peace Dollar. I tell her this is a dollar coin and is worth more than face value. She said that very nice, but she has no interest in pursuing the matter.
