Spending halves

Postby Engineer » Mon Sep 10, 2012 2:19 am

Tonight I went through Arby's drive up and had to laugh when the girl at the window asked her manager if she could take $4 in halves. I laughed even harder when he snatched them out of the drawer and kept hearing a clink-clink-clink as I waited on the sandwich.

Although I could dump the rest of the bag at the bank, spending them sounds like a lot more fun.

I keep a pile in the consol in my truck and enjoy spending them regularly. You get some people who grab them up thinking they are rare. You also get quite a few who look at them and act like im trying to spend a cowry shell.
Soooo... Is it just me or is a chart of US debt looking dangerously parabolic?

I usually carry a wad of $2 notes.

It's amazing how often I have to turn down change for a 5.
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

I paid in havles the other day at the grocery store. The kid behind the counter looked at the coins and said "I'm sorry sir but i'm new here, what are these?" Sheesh....couldn't even read the coins.....

I'll leave halves for tips. I've only left them at small restaurants, my wife threatens to leave me if I do it at a fancy restaurant. :o

She does have a point.....she's not gonna help you lug around small canvas bags full of halves to pay the tip in her purse.

I paid my subway bill with halves and the cashier thought they were quarters.

I have been spending halves at garage sales every week all summer. People don't seem to mind getting them. Some people think they are rare and tuck them right in their pocket. Sure makes lowballing easier when they see them. Also its a few less for the bank.

People do love to see halves. I do spend them every once in a while.
Who the heck orders them from banks to use in business? I'd guess very few people. Majority of orders have to be for CRHers.

Landfill in my parents town does as well. My dad got a 64 back in change from there. He was smart enough to notice something odd with it and researched it online and found out it was silver. This was before I had gotten into CRH. I wound up with the 64 which my son gets when he is a bit older.

I went through a period where I paid for every thing in halves. Buy $150 in diesel for the old truck? pay in halves. Need $5,000 for shingles? Pay in halves. My theory was if I spent them to pay all bills, it would take a lot longer for 'em to return to the bank.

Then it just got to be too much. It took waaaay too much time to count out all those coins! So I stopped.
When I die, I want to go like Grandpa did. He died in his sleep..... Not screaming and hollering like all the passengers in his car.
