Provident metals

Postby scyther » Sat Aug 18, 2012 3:32 am

I may have asked a question like this before, but I just want to make sure and ask about this site specifically...

After looking at silver online for several months, and with a price spike supposedly imminent, I think I'm finally going to buy some (I've bought a little at my LCS occasionally but not much). The one that seems to have the best selection (I'm probably going to buy 1 each of some various one ounce rounds/bars/national bullion coins) and relatively low prices is Provident Metals. Does anyone here buy from Provident? Can I safely assume that everything they sell me is real? Have any of you ever had any problems with them? Thanks.

(sorry if this question is annoying and repetitive, but I just really want to make sure)
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

I can say that Provident Metals has done nothing but a outstanding job of delivering fine silver bullion products to me. They delivered my ASE's in a inconspicuous brown box with a fictitious mailing company's name on it to hide what contents are within. When I go to a online bullion dealer I look at Provident first. Hope this helps. :D

Before I discovered this site I started with Provident. Excellent shipping, and fair prices for a small stacker. If you can move larger chucks of change, then other sites are better. I still go to Provident first, before shopping around.

Lets not forget Silvertowne either. A lot of their products have shipping/CC fees included.

Now most of my new acquisitions come from here or BS. RC has fairer prices and just as fast shipping. That is if you don't mind the risk.

I have made a couple of orders from Provident and their prices are better for small orders than most other retail PM websites. I have recommended Provident to local friends. Silvertowne is great when they have sales. I signed up to their email list and wait for their free shipping sale and I'll buy some of their bars. Deacon is right about how nice it is that they don't charge extra for CC.

They're very easy to deal with. If you want to get the cash price and have the goods shipped in a hurry, pay them with a postal money order. They treat them as cash, so no waiting for the check to clear or any other nonsense. The shipping time difference between paying with a CC and money order is about 2 days, and unless you're getting more than 3% cash back on your care, it's a no brainer in my mind.

I have 2 more orders placed with them. Items that I couldn't find at my local LCS. I also bought something from APMEX, just to try them out too!

I ordered a $100 face bag from Prov about a year ago. Came quickly had 1 extra dime in it (it was a roosie) there was also a Barber, so all in all I got 999x merc, 1x roos, 1x barber. Well within reasonable tolerances... However the coins were a bit above average wear. I did the math and was shorted aprox 1.5 ozt based on the .715 convention.

I figured why not and complained. They said you got your $100 face and thats all you will get, however we understand your concern and the salesman actually promised to give an extra discount next time I ordered. Unfortunately I haven't found need to order again since then. Buying more than I need at the shop, its starting to stretch my budget.

Overall I can't really complain, was a little dissapointed as the item description quoted the .715 convention, however this batch did not hold to it.

They shipped fast I got what I ordered, I don't think any other company would have thrown in that extra ounce either...
