Silver porn :)

Postby Nickelless » Thu Oct 10, 2013 12:39 pm

Just got this in the mail yesterday, but I was a little disappointed that the bars were sealed in plastic. I'm debating whether I should leave these in the plastic and fondle some of my other silver, or if I should take these bars out of plastic so they won't feel neglected.

Nothing wrong with having a pocket piece, but you want to keep the bulk of these in the plastic.

I have plenty of silver that isn't in plastic, but I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on why I should keep these in plastic. Is it because they're factory-sealed and thus don't need to be assayed?

Shiny factory-sealed silver can fetch a little premium over loose stuff. Or at least be easier to sell.

That's part of the reason, but you'll also have a larger resale market if you leave them enclosed. Some people are purists and want the original packaging.

For instance, all of Rich's furniture has the protective plastic still on it. No worries about dust mites or cat hairs in that house, nosirree

Solid buy.

I always keep mine sealed to keep finger prints and such off of them. Plus, they go for a little more on the bay that way.

Yup. Keep them sealed. Some buyers want them sealed some don't care. You can always take them out later but you can't put them back in.

If this is silver porn, then the plastic is a silver condom!

The plastic condom keeps away STD's (Silver Tarnish Disease)! 8-)

Yup, for many a collector they are worth more left in the factory plastic seal.

On the down side, you will never know for sure if they are pure silver, or counterfeit, kept sealed in plastic.

Well, I got the condom-covered silver directly from APMEX, so I'm pretty sure the bars don't have any Silver Tarnish Disease.
