state liquor store

Postby scrapper2010 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:00 pm

Walked down to the state liquor store a few weeks ago during lunch break to ask if they had any halves. The owner said he keeps the silver ones. So I said thanks and left. I decided to go down there today to see if he wanted to sell them. He had 4 Franklins, 2 quarters('64&'44), 1 dime('62), and a '67 kennedy. He didn't know what they were worth, I told him, and we agreed on $40 for the lot. Then I went down to the bank and asked if they had any halves, no rolls but the teller had two in her drawer, one was a 1967. ;)

Nice. Are you in PA? I grew up there and my mother worked in the state liquor store system.

I wondered the same... for anyone not familiar, PA has "state stores" which is the only legal place where you can buy bottle(s) of wine and liquor. As for beer, you can either buy ONLY (2) 6-packs at an establishment with a liquor license (bar or restaurant), or buy by the 24 pack at authorized beer distributors. You cannot buy ANY alcohol at other locations... no gas stations or other places. PA is slowly allowing grocers to get in the game, but there are a bunch of road-blocks here in PA, and only a few grocers have this options, and it is STILL prohibitive...

Personally, I don't think it is a bad thing

WOW!! I did some time in Utah while in the Air Force and thought they were tough on the liquor laws. At least you could buy beer pretty much anywhere.

I live in Vancouver, WA now which is just across the river from Oregon. Oregon is trying to get the Oregon Liquor Control Commission to allow Grocery Stores to sell hard liquor. Not that it matters to me I rarely ever drink. I just find it amazing how lax some states are and how restrictive others are.

I didn't buy anything my first time there, yesterday I told him to hold all the silver for me and I would buy it from him.

I live in Ohio and the liquor laws aren't as strict here as they are in your neck of the woods, but if you want the 80 proof stuff or higher you have to get it at a state store. The grocery stores sell watered down 40 proof. You can buy beer about anywhere here and how ever much you want.
