90% and 10oz bar premiums

Postby kiwiman » Wed Apr 30, 2014 8:26 pm

I am wondering what I should be expecting to get in 90% junk silver FV for a ten ounce JM silver bar. Would the FV I should expect to receive differ greatly if I get mercs over rosies and walkers over franks/kennedeys?

Thanks for the help, I don't have much experience dealing with premiums and trading silver for another form of silver straight up just makes it more complex.

People tend to hoard nice mercs and walkers, which leaves the heavily worn ones to circulate. You should be able to get nearly the same FV worth of mercs as roosies, but the quality won't be as high. The same is true of halves.

But how much face value for each bar is fair? I was offered $14 which I think is fair but it doesnt hurt to make sure.

You can look at Provident's buy/sell prices to figure out a fair value for each. Their buy prices tend to be close to the deals here on the forum, so let's use those for this example:

http://www.providentmetals.com/90-junk-silver-us-coins-1-face-value-715-troy-ounces.html
http://www.providentmetals.com/provident-metals-10-oz-silver-bar.html

Using their buy prices, $13.10 would be a fair trade. Using their sell prices, $12.90 would be fair. $13FV per 10oz bar seems like a reasonable compromise.

$14 FV is right on the nose...14 x .715 = 10.01 oz in 90% coins for a 10 oz bar.
