Group Buys

This forum is for discussing hunting and collecting US and Canadian circulation Silver Bullion Coins, other types of minted bullion, and other types of precious and base metal investments other than Bullion Pennies and Nickels.

Group Buys

Postby SilverStateGOP » Sun May 25, 2014 1:01 pm

As a fair sized number of you know, two group buys have begun with myself as the leader of them. The first one, completed, was a success, and as far as I know I haven't any complaints. The second one is still in progress as far as funds coming in and the actual buy being executed.

The passion for these things is to be part of a larger whole, to clear minimums set by the several mints, take advantage of better pricing tiers, combinations of the previous reasons. In plain, these buys were and are being done as safely, speedily, and ethically as can be managed. Being held up by the mails is not good, but something that has to be labored under. Electronic transfers will be widened somewhat as soon as accounts at Citibank and Chase are opened up, and if there was a way to get a PREPAID CapitalOne 360/ING account started, avenues would be wider still. (The local Bank of America branch, from prior acts, is anathema; borrowing from the late Gen. Robert E. Lee in referring to his opponents, they shall be defined as "Those People", and would no sooner trust them than a scorpion not to strike.) It has been policy to send silver by USPS; enough horror stories about brown and fedex have prompted it.

The Texas Precious Metals 2014 "Longhorn" silver ounce has been the unit for purchase in these two buys. They are a handsome round, and at the base tier price of $1.89 for a .9999 round, quite the bargain. TPM has been prompt, courteous, secure and high quality through all.

This said, a new round has been looked for, to lend some variety, for a Group Buy to be launched in early June, as soon as all feedback is received from the one in progress.

Searching capability is limited by the express non-use of the likely NSA tool and present regime contributor, google (which is hereafter designated as gargle, in the same vein as BofA/Those people) . Results thus far have yielded the following four 1 ounce candidates:

MPM Buck http://www.monarchpreciousmetals.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&product_id=992&flypage=flypage.tpl&pop=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

QSB Divisible Gold Panner http://qualitysilverbullion.com/silver-bullion/silver-rounds/divisible-gold-panner

Westminster Mint Statue of Liberty http://www.coin-rare.com/silver-bullion-statue-of-liberty.aspx

Provident Morgan http://www.providentmetals.com/morgan-dollar-1-oz-silver-round.html

Commentary would be appreciated.

MODERATORS/ADMINS If this topic is in the wrong area, I would appreciate it being relocated and proper PM sent.

Thanks to all in advance.

Given the above choices I'd pick the Provident Morgan. As good are the Saint Gaud and Standing Liberty also offered by Provident. My fav. is the Incuse Indian 1929.

I have to agree with Mr. Brickner on both statements. Of the four designs, the Morgan is the best looking, and I love the 1929 incuse design!

I like the looks of the MPM Buck the best but I would go along with any of the ones listed.

Which site has the best cost break?
I would be interested in joining the next group buy. I would have loved to do the one that just closed but did not even see it in time. It had just closed first I read of it.
I will start watching closer for the next one!

I'm hoping I can participate in the next upcoming group buy. If I can put my two cents in and all that it is worth my vote goes to Provident Morgans. Time to add some rather inexpensive silver to the ever growing pile.

I have NOT ordered from these guys but others on BS have and they say their stamping is rough and not like a finished product. I would be in on a group buy for the panner.

It is just my own preference, but I do not like the idea of Rounds that look in any way like US coins, past or present. The Feds raided the Liberty Dollar offices, and the kangaroo courts convicted the owner. That makes me suspect and careful about rounds that look like US coins.

If I am able to participate, I would also prefer the Divisible Panner.

I like the design of the Monarch Bucks the best, but the divisible panner is pretty cool and not too expensive.

von Nothaus' error was stamping a dollar value on the rounds. if the round in ? has composition, purity and weight, it is DEFINITELY not US currency

The divisibles, when they can be found, are nice. Valcambi's introductory fooling around turned me off of them, but I have to say that their 10x10gm divisi-bar would have been a regular staple had they not screwed up.

Again, tomorrow there should have better answers.

This sale has been going on for a few weeks and they still have 3400 left. Gov't issued coin for 1.99 over. If the sale is still up in a week or 2 perhaps this may interest you guys instead of generics.

Very interesting coin - wasn't aware of it.

I snagged a few last year, and in spite of the cheap price the Noah's Ark coins look very pro. Internet pics don't really showcase how nice the rays of the sun look when you tilt the coin.
