Ever find silver dollars mixed in with Ikes?

Postby Recyclersteve » Sun May 15, 2016 12:54 am

I have an old friend who once got five silver dollars (I think it was four Morgans and one Peace) mixed in with $20-30 of Ikes. Then I just ran into someone in the past couple of weeks who said he's gotten quite a few over the years when looking for Ikes. Now I'm starting to think they are on to something. Just curious-does anyone else have any related experiences they can share? I've seen quite a few Ikes over the years (probably 1000 or more in the past 8-10 years), but never a single silver dollar mixed in. I did get one 35% silver Ike, however.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

I sold a bag of Ikes to someone one time that I later found out had 1 Peace Dollar in the mix. I bought the sealed bag to resell to him. I never checked it. I think the odds of finding 1 at a bank is low because the tellers would have swapped it out for themselves.

Got a Silver dollar from the bank two ways:

1. Bought 8 Ikes and there was one peace dollar in there. He counted them over and over again and never stopped to realize one of them was completely different.

2. Asked for half dollars- teller said she only had Two, said whatever I will take them. Hands me a Clad Kennedy and a peace dollar

I once found an ASE in the ikes. I also have found maybe 10 silver dollars over the years.

Happened to me in the 80's. I asked the teller for ten 1 dollar coins, she gave me 9 Ikes and 1 very worn Peace dollar.

In the 80's it was much easier finding silver halves than silver dollars.

I've only found one 40% ike in the wild. Never a peace or morgan. Oh wouldn't that be swell to find one.

12 50% silver 1971 BC Commemoratives in a batch of old dollars. I keep asking for anything old or unusual.
