90% junk silver vs 99.9 rounds.

So I just purchased a bunch of rounds for 29 cents over spot from ampex. Why is it that 90% seems to be selling for a larger premium than rounds? Perhaps I just got a good deal on the rounds, but it seems strange.

All about supply and demand, premiums shift constantly. I’ve seen 90% fetch 20% over spot, I’ve seen it sell under spot. I’ve seen 90% premiums be higher than generics, seen them lower as well. Buy what you like, shop for the deals, diversify. Personally, I prefer 90% but also keep generics on hand

Everyone is different, but I like 90% more than .999 rounds. How can you tell if the rounds are counterfeit or not? With 90% junk silver, I can do the good old fashioned drop test to authenticate. Silver has a distinct sound and it is different for bigger coins (i.e., rounds) than it is for, say dimes or quarters.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

Please note that ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- sometimes substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) as well.

. Thanks for the info. I have some of both. The rounds are my investment silver to possibly sell when the price is high, my 90% is what I hold onto.

I faired ok on the big batch of silver rounds I got. They were supposed to be from the secondary market, but they were all brand new. All came from RMC which seems to have a pretty reputation. They all came in tubes.

constitutional coinage is my favorite especially the older designs. love the dollars but do not like the premiums normally charged these days. going for the halfs mostly these days when i can still get them at melt. coin shows are a great place to buy 90% at melt in bulk.
