The party's over in California as of April 1st......

Postby pennypicker » Sun Apr 07, 2019 10:38 am

Yep I live in southern California and beginning last week (April 1) our Democratic controlled government decided to require out-of-state on-line companies that meet one of two requirements to start collecting 7.25% sales tax on goods sold and shipped to California. Any out-of-state on-line company that had $100,000 in (gross) sales in 2018 to the state of California (OR) had 200 separate transactions to the state of California must now begin charging the new tax beginning April 1. My favorite on-line bullion seller is JM Bullion and I regularly buy their 10 oz Sunshine silver bars one or two at a time. They are based out-of-state and I've never had to pay sales tax but today having heard about the new law I went to JM Bullion to do a "test" purchase of one 10 oz Sunshine bar and during checkout I now have to pay $13 in sales tax so its good by to JM Bullion and under no circumstances will I give the state of California anymore tax dollars than the egregious amount they are already taking from me.

Buy from private sellers, but you know that already.

Very Unfortunate turn of events there. We in Michigan are still tax free on Precious metals.

Not sure on Platinum or Palladium however. I remember some states do not recognize these as PM's for some reason

That sucks. You got an out of state address to ship to?

Unfortunately not. However in two years I will have an out of state address to ship to when I "permanently" move to the beautiful state of Oregon--just two more years of California's insanity

That sucks! Good thing you are moving to Oregon soon.

I moved out of that socialist state in 2009. I saw the sh*t starting to hit the fan there a long time ago. You can't even buy cases of ammo anymore. Amazingly a judge ruled against the ban on the high capacity mags for AR's, but the libtards there will appeal it, and they'll probably get their way too.

Yep, and it just came out in the paper today that the California legislature is proposing a tax increase on new car tires and batteries; tax increase on "services" rendered by all businesses that provide any type of service; and an increase in the inheritance tax. Just yesterday my niece showed me a video that a friend of hers sent to her cell phone. Her friend has a video camera at her front door and two nights ago her friend was awakened at 2:00 in the morning by loud noises and the next morning they saw that their front door jamb was badly damaged. They looked at their video and it showed a black car pull up and a person dressed like a gang member jumped out of the passenger seat, ran up to the front door and tried to kick in the door. He tried a second time and the door budged a bit but held and the person said "sh*t" and ran back to the car and it sped off. This is a common occurrence here in gang infested California. Oh, and last week I came out to walk my dog in the early morning and every mail box lid was down on the whole street which is another common occurrence as the gangs regularly steal mail. And just a month ago a neighbor two houses down had the back license plate stolen off his car which was parked in the drive way--another common occurrence as gangs steal plates to commit their crimes. So he had to take a day off work to go to the DMV and he told me there was at least 300 people there and dozens had to stand because there wasn't enough floor space to add more chairs. He said there was twelve clerk stations but only six were manned due to California being too cheap to hire more clerks. Consequently he was there for THREE hours just to get a replacement plate. He also said he felt like he was in a third-world country because during that three hour wait nearly half of all the talking he heard around him was in Spanish and he was overwhelmed by the smell of poor hygiene that he couldn't escape no matter how many times he changed seats. What the heck, here's another one: just last week I went to the main UPS center to mail a package as I am a car parts seller on ebay. As I'm entering their parking lot I see a large portable trailer with a 20 foot tall set of six security cameras and four large lights that I've never seen there before. I get to the door and there's a large sign saying they no longer accept cash or checks--just credit cards. Turns out they were robbed at gunpoint by a couple gang members.

And you'll love this one: two weeks ago a person attempted to board a city transit bus with insufficient fare. The newspaper said the bus driver told him he couldn't board and the person then chose to play the "race card" and got in the driver's face screaming. The driver tried to call his supervisor but was then pulled from him seat and thrown down the bus steps. The assailant then stood over the driver and punched him six to seven times in the face and ran off. The driver had to be taken to the hospital. I could go on and on with describing all the insanity that goes takes place an almost a daily basis locally here in the "Golden State". Believe me if you came to live in California for just six months you would be driving back to Oregon as fast as you could go and you wouldn't stop overnight in a motel until you reached Ashland or Grants Pass where you felt you were back in a civilized society again

Don, why was under the impression you had made the move to Oregon quite a few years ago? Did you go and have to unexpectedly return to California? Either way I wish you the best for staying safe, and getting to your desired destination.

As more and more of the middle class gets bumped into the lower class by the hidden tax of inflation (currency printing which robs buying power, since currency is a representation of goods and services which are not increasing likewise, thus prices go up), price inflation further bolstered by an ever increasing and frankly ridiculous minimum wage (which doesn't help anyone, but hurts those who make more than the minimum), less available jobs due to automation, and of course keeping less of what they make due to increasing taxation, more and more people will take the easy road to live off the welfare state which only exacerbates the problem by requiring more taxes from less workers to maintain sustainability. It's a vicious cycle that will only get worse for as long as fiat currency is printed to pay down compounding interest, and a shrinking working class can only shoulder so much of society's burden.

I heard there's going to be a new capital gains tax in my state (WA) for couples making over $200K. I don't understand how earned wages can amount to a capital gain, but obviously the rope is getting thin. Stay vigilant, and don't wait to establish a core position if you haven't already.

Your friend, Nick

Hello Nick, yes I had moved from California to Oregon back in 2011 but unfortunately the "Great Recession" was exceptionally severe in Springfield, Oregon with an unemployment rate of 13.8%. Of course that official number sugar coated the fact that the majority of companies were only hiring part-time with no benefits so the situation there was much worse than the official numbers would imply. Things were so bad that very few people would quit their job because they knew it could take maybe a year or more to find another one if they found one at all. So after two years of watching my savings being depleted I made the very tough decision to move back to CA and rebuild. The unemployment rate in the Eugene/Springfield metro area is now down to 4.2 so for the time being the work environment is much, much better as is the rest of the state of Oregon. Nevertheless having lived in Oregon, even under such tough economic times, I saw that there were still places in this country where people still could get along with each other without all the gang violence and crime that goes with it.

So many things are becoming subscription and fee based. I wonder if that minimum wage meddling is government attempt to keep more people from joining the welfare club.

That's why my post office in Oakland has bulletproof glass...because they have been robbed one too many times. And just yesterday in Oakland, during a sideshow (Where they block the intersection/road/freeway and do donuts in the street) they looted a semi truck, torched it, then torched a city bus, then started shooting. The thing that bothers me the most about these sideshows, is the police just sit back and watch them happen. Streets and even freeways get completely blocked for over an hour at times, and police don't seem to care.

We've had a problem with attacks on bus drivers here in Winnipeg too, to the point that
a lot of bus drivers are quiting. (Including one case where one was killed.) This has been
going on several years now. I've said several times that I'd be uncomfortable being a bus
driver unless I got to carry a gun and had the authority to use it.

Also starting earlier this month our main library downtown now has a weapons/drugs
search on the way in because of dumb stuff people have been doing. Apparently a lot
of it is due to meth catching on and making people dumber than they usually are.
