Silver prices

Silver is about $20 Canadian give or take a few cents. Wandered into a local pawn shop and they wanted $35 for a tarnished eagle in a big plastic case, not graded. Looked around on Craigslist and the best deal is $25 for random year Maples, and not close to me. All the other silver coins are priced 2x to 50x spot for junk. Looked around on ebay and everything there is priced sky high. We to a Coin Shop while traveling and was only able to find a couple pandas for $35 and a little gold. So other then here, where do people actually find silver to buy?

I see scores of ads for people offering to buy coins on Craigslist. Anyone run those with any success?

Local coin shop has plenty of junk silver here. They charge 75-76% of spot price per $1 face depending on what you buy.

Melt -25% spot for 90% ? :o

That would be $14.96 * .75 = 11.22
At 11.22 spot that would be 8X face for 90%.

I think he means 11.22x face.

I have lots of 80% and 50% Canadian. My uncle used to visit Montreal regularly in the 60's and 70's... I still have all the coins he brought back for me. I'm surprised at how much 50% was still circulating back then. If you can find any 50%, it should have lower premiums.

LCSs are always try to get the highest premiums on everything. I don't blame them, they gotta pay for all that brick and mortar. Go in there and pull out a stack of $20 bills. Buying in size should give you more negotiating power (I've done this many times, the LCS owner almost always lowers the price).

In the past I've bought from sellers off Craig's list. Meet them in a bank parking lot... plenty of security cameras. I always park my car a block away so they couldn't see my car/license plate.

Don't know if you like Ag bars, but the 100oz bars have fairly low premiums right now.
Time is precious, stop wasting it.
