Bought $70 quarters brought in by elderly woman

Postby Pennysaved » Thu Sep 30, 2010 2:56 pm

I was at one of my pick-up banks today to pick up my pennies and nickels and a woman in her 80s was in front of me turning in change.

I got kind of excited thinking there might be some silver in there.

I asked the merchant teller if I could buy everything she turned in and ask the teller beside her to sell it to her so she could sell it to me.

However, there was not any silver :(

Would you guys have taken the chance? I usually dont sort quarters.

I woulda done it if I physically had the money to do so. Can't lose. But it strikes me as VERY funny to think that the 80 year old lady is probably a silver searcher.

Have done the "old lady"/"old man" routine many times. The majority of the time they are a bust, but some have yielded fantastic results. Will do it every chance I have.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

What I like to do is park a car on one side of the parking lot and have a friend parked on the other. We use a walkie-talkie system and try and identify anyone over the age of 65 who appears to be carrying coinage into the bank. If we have a positive spot, I usually signal via cell phone text message to our guy on the inside who just so happens to get behind said individual in line every time. Then we rotate positions every 2-3 hours so as to not look too conspicuous.

Obviously I don't do this, but that would be totally awesome.
