When/If you count the size of your stack...

Postby UDEric » Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:43 am

Do you only count what you have in .999? Or do you also count the oz. that you have in junk?

If you own 50oz of .999 and the equivalent of 100oz in Junk, do you consider your stack to be 50 or 150 oz?

Just wondering what people are thinking about this.

yep silver is silver.....I even count it down to the gram for my .999 (thanks to Kurr)

Junk I tally at total face. (keeping seperate numbers for my mint/BU rolls and my circulated rolls)

Sterling scrap tallys at grams then ships off to Market Harmony every so often.
This space for rent. :)

have a piece of paper i add to its tally as i buy.90% junk as fv and .999 bars in one column and eagles in another gets the standard 4 lines then the 5th through them and the only reason i do this is in case i ever get robbed.

I count silver as silver as well. I have been tempted to weigh my junk to know what I really have due to wear. I havent done that yet though. One day.

I add up my U.S. 90% coins (the junk) in face value, then multiply by .715 to get ounces.

I don't store my hoard on premises;
So I keep an excel chart and pictures in case I "get in the mood" to look at the hoard.

And I keep them separate, 40%, 90%, .999 bars, .999 coins, Numismatics, etc, etc, etc.
For my silver coins I have an equation where I can enter the spot price of silver and it automatically shows the total value of my hoard down to the cent.

Oh, agent_pur, I think $1000FV stumbled on this forum by accident when he was really looking for the official TSA forum!

Welcome, brother. Enjoy your stay.

And since I have more 90% than .999, I usually just count the junk.

It is kinda funny though when you think about a guy walking into a room full of people and the first thing out of his mouth is a declaration of how much he enjoys fondling his junk!!!!!

Right you are, SOM--my apologies  As I sold off my entire silver stack for gold when the GSR got below 49 and switched to 1 oz. K-Rands, I'm only counting those ATM.

I was just wondering where you came up with .715 I always use .7233 based on the average of pure silver in dimes, quarters and halves. I know silver dollars have more than 3/4 of a oz. so I add them seperately. I'm just curious

.715 is the "standard" for calculating circulated junk silver---.7234 is what you would use if your coins were BU.

Thank you I'm glad to know that. Now I'll have to recalculate all my junk silver. I guess I Don't have as much as I thought. That's 8 less oz's on $1000.00 FV

Can certainly lead to chafing if you're not careful; and hairy palms and blindness have been reported...

I made an Excel spreadsheet that calculates the silver content of junk, both US and Canadian. It also shows the current value of my hoard, the amount of unrealized profit, total TrOzAg of the hoard, , total $ invested, avg. $/oz paid, ......basically the works.
