Dent's demographic models would be more sound if America were like Japan and was a culturally homogenous society without immigrants and religious people keeping up birth rates and maintaining some degree of dynamism in our demographics. My dad, who is no great economist but he does have an economics degree, always said, "never draw your predictions with a ruler" (ie, things in the real world don't progress in a straight line).
