SILVER - WAS $31-$49, WAS $33-$43, NOW $44+

I'd like to think there is "momentum", but I'll be confident of it when it breaks 50 and stays there. Right now I consider it to be in a trading range between 45 and 48. However, I kept my silver ETFs, as I think it will break out again before long. (a day, a week, a month, doesn't matter)

Dollar is now down to 73.3. It's going up and down, but still trending down.

Just checked Kitco.com where it says Ag is $48.45. It struck me that I really need to get serious about looking for silver and stop waiting for "the correction". A 10% correction would only lower the price to the $44 range. A 20% correction would take the price to the $40 range. Neither drop "feels" big enough to sit around and anticipate. As many have said here before, "the correction" is happening as Ag goes higher. Best of luck to all of you in prepping for the times ahead.

i know...damn the $6 premium for ASE Rolls, full speed ahead. i just gotta close on my lil farmette before the $ goes below 72.00.

below 72 does cause me a bit of unease, bad stuff can happen if we punch thru that.

Country, i just want to thank you and the others who configured this forum, you got a lotta respect from this poster, thats for sure.

I swear this market is manic. Up $2, down $1, up $.50 all in the matter of a few hours.

158,000 volumne in July....huge volumne.

the only entity willing to take the risk of new short positions, has to have access to enormous amounts of USD, and no fear to risk as such.

Let me ask; why would the Big 4 want a lower silver price?......who benefits from a lower silver price and how does it work?

i cant wrap my mind around the "why" something would NEED lower silver prices, to the point of financial foolhardiness.

Only two entities need (or at least have something to gain from) lower silver prices: Industrial users and short sellers.

I just bought another 300 in nickels. Maybe now is the time to do nickels for the long term. I'm not even sorting, just stashing. Everyone is looking at Ag. It's time to look at what others are ignoring.

What I'm beginning to learn is that "cheap" is relative. When my mom and dad bought their $12,000 house in 1955 with $65 monthly payments, it didn't feel cheap to them. According to my dad, when he acquired a little Au years ago at $35, it didn't feel cheap either.

Perhaps the only thing that is truly cheap is a flimsy Federal Reserve Note. That's why it takes so many of them to buy an ounce of Ag.

I considered that and figured the opportunity cost to be very low because the nickels are 100% liquid. The money is there.

The opportunity cost is the time spent lugging them around. The opportunity cost would be similar to FRN's in the bank.

Stop busting my balls Ray!

I'm trying to have a serious conversation here!

I'm not busting your balls, Eric, I'm thinking of my own situation. All the copper I've stockpiled thru the last eighteen months... what it would have been worth if I had invested a like amount in silver instead. As far as your nickels instead of FRN's... yeah, go with the nickels for sure.

The

It's all about our personal time frame (you probably don't even buy green bananas)

I'm just thinking silver is so hot and there are other cheap base metals that are under the radar.

justj2k78 said he wish he'd got in on the ground floor. I'm thinking 20 years out. I'm 45, maybe I'll have the time to see major wealth protection.

I appreciate this thread. I was an aggressive buyer here and everywhere else at $15-$30 per oz.

I've sold very little and hate that I did.

But now the market seems over-exuberant, I't was better when it was smoother.

Is it just a mindset? big swings are not a blessing to the (Ag)ophile.

I just don't want to ride this investment into the ground like I done in the past.

When this PM market hits the OPRAH show, please someone PM with an offer to buy me out.

Easy fix to that.... just sell whatever it takes to break even. at that point you should have no worries in the world about it. you cant loose a dime. Use it to build up a homestead. Well thats what Id do anyway.

Sell whatever it takes to break even, ouch!...

That would be riding it into the dirt IMO.

Then you made your choice. Its certainly not a bad one considering here we are as a nation. Now that you made your choice, stop worrying about it, you made your choice based on the best info you had. You did your best. Keep track of the markets to see if its a good time to sell, or whatever, other then that forget about it. Let it be what it is. Nothing in the world to be gained fretting over it. weigh your choices, and stick with them.

Hahaha I think my wife would kill me if I started collecting another metal! I do dabble in copper, again, small potatoes - maybe 50 lbs of copper Lincolns, traded my Canadians and wheats for silver.

And I agree that "cheap" is a relative term, my father talks about signing his first teaching contract for $2500 a year... certainly wasn't rich, but he supported his family. But, one look at the price of silver over the last 5 years would indicate that it was, at least, cheapER, both in a relative and actual sense, not too long ago.

I don't jump in and out, though. As far as my tax-advantaged retirement accounts, I'm a buy and hold, set my AA and rebalance to maintain said AA. I put in the same percentage when the market is up, down, upside-down, whatever! I'm going to do the same with silver. I don't plan to try to predict the future, and I don't believe there are many (if any) who can do that with any consistency. My approach is to buy and hold - accumulate, accumulate, accumulate!

Very few of us (like Country) predicted this type of performance from silver. In early 2010 I was confident the silver was undervalued, but I never dreamed that it would triple in a little over a year. I admit that there were times when I thought was investing too much in both physical an paper silver. Now I wish I'd sold a kidney to buy more.

Nickels and copper pennies play the same role they always have; a low cost/ low risk way to hedge inflation. Personally I think we are headed for $100 silver in the next few years or perhaps sooner. We could even reach the point where we are less concerned with what silver is worth in dollars than its buying power in goods and services. Despite that I still pick up my two boxes of pennies and $10 in nickels each week.
