I wanted to resurrect this fine old post that hasn't had activity in a while, so I'll share this little diddy...

I was traveling to the greater Cincinnati area a couple months ago and happened to get 25 of the 40% silver halves from a single bank in rural Ohio. I was in Northern Kentucky a few days later on my way to the airport, but was early and had some extra time to walk around. My wife and I saw a jeweler who had a sign out front saying they were buying gold and silver.

I decided to go in and the guy paid me $3 each (6x face) for the 25 halves I'd just found. So my $12.50 investment was sold for $75 a few days later. I'll take it!

I can't remember what city he was in and I think he made a mistake by paying too much and likely realized it pretty soon afterwards. The guy before me brought in a box of nickels and sold some of them. But I overheard the man in the shop saying "Too bad you don't have any of the war nickels because I'm paying $2 each for those." Naturally, when he asked me what I wanted for the halves, I responded by saying $3.00 each. He may have thought that was a great deal since the much smaller nickels were worth paying $2 for. I wonder how much more I could have gotten, but am happy with how things worked out.
