This thread needed to be dusted off and bumped to the top.

Gold's in record territory. Silver is looking strong. Will we think silver was expensive at $40+ one year from now? When is silver going to bust a move?

Typically, GOLD leads in late-July and August. Then in late-August, SILVER CATCHES FIRE!!! GET READY!!!

imo, silver trading in a long steady band 37-41 is a good thing, the longer the band, the higher the pop.

Agreed. Just trying to get some opinions on when the inevitable will happen.

Soon. The pent-up pressure is building. I think it's going to pop to $60 by end of September.

that wouldnt be unreasonable, or undoable. i'm rarely a good timer, i just know the trade is REALLY good, and the long lean band is so frigging bullish, along with my read of the retail Ebay market, this market dont need no Viagra, tell ya that.

I agree $60 by septembers end, but probably won't find support there for a few weeks/months, hovering high 40s to low 60s. I don't forsee the logarithmic climb to $100 before we hit $2500 gold.

Of course this is by no means an expert opinion, just mine and who else's expertise really matters :D

I'm not a great timer either, and many things could happen to affect that timing, including behind the scenes manipulations. Suffice it to say that I would never bet on a specific timing (so don't anyone else do that either!), but I am betting a fair amount on a continuing eventual trend upward.

Today I just sold the last of my CEF near the high for the day (I may have left money on the table, but so be it). I dearly love that fund for the long haul as asset protection, but for paper trading I've realized it doesn't have the flexibility of buying separate PHYS for gold and PSLV for silver, as they don't time the same when trading near-term. So I will buy back into more of both PHYS and PSLV at the next drop with those proceeds. So for now I'm about 2:1 gold/silver in paper. I believe TPTB will attempt another major kick-down of silver next week and I aim to buy back in large with PSLV so that I will be 3:1 silver/gold when I'm done (maybe, depends on details of what happens).

My timing has been the opposite of what really happens. If I BUY the price drops. If I sell the price takes off the next day. I just chalk it up to an unpredictable market and as long as I sell it for more than I paid I am happy.

Cool - let me know how you're feeling, so I can feel confident about doing the opposite! ;) Your instrument is functioning properly, you've just got a signal bias that you need to correct by flipping the dial around 180 degrees!! :)

The problem is the settings around the dial are constantly moving, A.K.A. The market.

Maybe I will build a roulette wheel with buy, sell, buy, sell all the way around and just spin it every morning.

Wow the silver chart on Kitco looks pretty solid today. It's inched upwards a little bit at a time ALL DAY LONG, except for a little turbulence in the middle.

Yep - silver has kicked butt today! I sold my paper silver a bit too early yesterday and earlier this morning, but I'll take those profits and not look back. I expect TPTB to work on knocking it back next week, possibly Sunday night and/or Monday morning, and I'm prepared to buy back in large, again, if they do, and try to catch that next run-up, again.

Have to say, the rate of climb today and the constant slope - with just those couple of jiggles midday - make me think TPTB have pulled their hands off the throttle for the moment, letting it get a head of steam to trap longs on margin, but that the other shoe is about to drop by TPTB.

SILVER has been under quiet accumulation all the while GOLD was getting up a head of steam. I think we're going much higher here as this time period is known to be the beginning of very large upward moves in SILVER. Assuming the bottom for SILVER was $33, one could expect another of the SILVER gigantic moves higher to start now and continue into the end of the year. Unlike GOLD, SILVER is not overbought by any means. If the move higher is similar to previous breakouts, which is confirmed now by closing higher than the $42 resistence level (formerly where we really broke down before from the high $40s), you could expect a 80% move higher from $33 to reach a plateau around $60-$70. You would see some sort of a retrenchment at that level.

You're right!

Technical resistance broken Friday morning... no major selling at the resistance. This is PROVEN by the end of day run-up in Silver. If anyone is willing to take the bet by Sun, 16:00 EST, I'll put up a silver half dollar that we cross over $45 next week.

When an asset is under accumulation, you will see weakness draw in skeptics, and then just as they finish establishing their short positions, the real buyers step in and run them over. As price continues to climb, the shorts realize their losses and get out at any price before the asset trading market is closed... Works on a daily and weekly scale.

For the week of Aug 22-26, I think we will see some early strength on Monday, followed by a price downdraft on Tuesday, and then real buying starting on Wednesday and lasting into Friday. Friday will be short covering day and could see the price explode higher... who would want to short silver over the weekend?

Of course, I may be totally wrong, and silver could explode higher on Monday.

MANY NEGATIVE NANCY'S WILL GET RUN DOWN AND STOMPED ON BY THE UPCOMING MOVE IN SILVER... $75 BY THE END OF 2011 IS NOT OUT OF THE REALM OF POSSIBILITIES:

I believe $60 silver by end of Sept is possible (see other posts - and I'm not just calling it, but will be surprised if it doesn't make that), but there will be push-back and further shorting on the way up. I don't think it will be a clean run up. Those only exist for short periods of time.

Instead of looking at this negatively, you should be playing AGQ long on the uprise.

all i post on facebook is for my friends and family to buy silver, I post practically every day; and been doing so for about a year now. (less than 20% of all my friends and family have listened). I also am slightly scared about the recent runup in silver (5% up on friday, i think). Not enough time to get more silver, Argh!!!:-(, I buy some every day, whatever I can afford, I am 100% tied in with silver for all my investing purposes. Call me crazy! but i hope silver tanks to $5.00/oz. because the truth is it never will, and silver is used in everything. get used to high prices forever (in my opinion. any price under $100/oz. is a deal); we might have "corrections" here and there, but I doubt there is any "manipulation" going on anymore in the silver market, otherwise if there was the price would be much lower, no matter what. Everyone and there mother is scrapping silver right now, and practically every country in the world has been increasing they're silver holdings by 3x......it is no longer under control, however with the amount of silver hitting the market from refineries is keeping the price down, and it is only going to get worse. But one thing you can bet on (I should say 2 things) Silver will never be cheap again, and the US dollar will soon be worth nothing.
