SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Spot gold dropped more than 1 percent to $1,717.70 an ounce on Monday, after Japan's intervention in the foreign exchange market spurred a rally in the dollar and weighed on bullion prices.

Spot silver fell more than 1 percent to $34.78 an ounce by 0224 GMT.

In the meantime, $34.64 right now. Is this a gift from Berlusconi?

I Don't follow you. Can be 100% wrong just like anyone else. Trust that the cyclical USD rally will treat you well.

Glad you're here JFF.

I have a question about that.

Does a USD rally against other currancy translate as a rally against PM's? If so or if not, Why?

Hi buddy.
A rally in the USD isn't always the antithesis of PM's. However, in the current context I suspect that it is. There is plenty of deleveraging still to take place.
It is just imvho and I can be 100% wrong of course.
Best to you.

Well, it was a small funny, but... hey, it's a bit of a play, because it's also true, given that you're a trader, and good traders can make money going up or down. :) (Me, not so much, only now and then, and then not very efficiently - but I'm fine with what I know for now.)

Silver Hits Six-Week High
BY MATT DAY

NEW YORK—Silver futures surged to their highest level in six weeks, as hopes for steady demand for the precious metal replaced the economic gloom that dragged prices lower last month.

The most actively traded silver contract, for March delivery, rose $1.116, or 3.8%, to settle at $31.675 a troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest ending price since Dec. 9.

About half of silver demand comes from industrial uses, making the metal ...

A few days ago, Eric Sprott decided to take advantage of the record premium over NAV of his physical silver fund PSLV (or for some other arbitrary reason) and to issue a $300MM follow-on offering, whose proceeds would be used to buy up silver to add to PSLV's existing physical holdings.

Looks like the US dollar is moving south. Good for Canada.

Canadian Dollar Strengthens to Parity for the First Time Since November
By Chris Fournier - Jan 26, 2012
The Canadian dollar rallied to parity with its U.S. counterpart for the first time in almost three months as a Federal Reserve pledge to extend its freeze on borrowing costs raised demand for higher-yielding assets.

The Canadian currency touched the highest since Nov. 1 and was headed for a 1.2 percent gain on the week. The currency has underperformed a majority of its most-traded counterparts this year on speculation the Bank of Canada will follow the Fed by keeping interest rates lower for longer.

“The market is very reactive to headlines still, and that’s given risk assets a bit of a push,” said Shaun Osborne, chief currency strategist at Toronto-Dominion Bank in Toronto. “The big story is still the spillover from the Fed yesterday and the expected extension in the rally in risk assets that we’re going to get from this commitment to keep policy very accommodative for longer than people anticipated.”

The Canadian currency appreciated 0.3 percent to C$1.0016 per U.S. dollar at 7:58 a.m. Toronto time after touching 99.93 cents. One Canadian dollar buys 99.84 U.S. cents.

Nice work finding a 90%. Keep up searching, you will find even more silver at face value. Those '86's shouldn't be worth much more than 50 cents. Happy hunting! :)
