All casinos seem to still have half dollars because of the Black Jack payout rules. I see them everytime I play BJ and wanted to know if anyone has ever hunted in Las Vegas casinos during there trips.

I thought about that once. But I bet they are pretty well picked over. I do remember hitting a jackpot on a half dollar slot machine about 12 or 13 years ago and being paid out in halves into the hopper. I wish I had known to check for silver back then. I just took the bucket of halves to the nearest cashier and got paper. Who knows what could have been missed.

I picked up 25 silver halves from a small casino in Nevada over the last year. 12 40% from a black jack table for face value from the dealer (I gave the dealer two for a tip) and I bought $922 worth from the teller and found 1 Walker, 2 Franklins and 10 more 40% in them. There are still some out there, you just need to get off of the beaten path.

Dude you got real lucky, Someone gambled their coin collection. Most of those coins are recycled through the casino banks over and over and over. They are picked clean.

I got a silver quarter once in an indian casino, about 20 years ago.

6 years ago I used to go to the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. I would put $20 in 50 cent slots and then immediately cash out, and then cash in my non silver halves. I used leave with about $20 in silver every time I went there. I went a few years ago and they had switched to paper tickets like so many of the other casinos now.

A few months ago I hit about a dozen casinos on the strip and freemont street for 1/2. Went through thousands of halves obtained from casino cashers and by inserting bills into slot machines and cashing out. Absolute skunk. Also many of the strip casinos do not use 1/2s anymore.

I actually had decent success visiting several banks in the city and asking for 1/2s.

I found myself at a casino in southern Oregon a year ago; small town; small casino; seemed like it might be a good prospect. I got as many halfs as they would give me, which I remember to be close ot $500; nothing. I haven't tried since. I had much better luck stoppign at small banks on the way back to Portland.

I also got skunked in Vegas. Was there a few months ago and zero luck searching halfs. I did have some luck at a Fremont St casino that still used nickels in the nickel slots. I picked up 1 war nickel and 100 or so pre-1960.

I used to work for one of the indian casinos and I know a lot of people that work for various casinos. Everyone that works at the casinos knows all about silver. The cash cage pull it when it comes in. If you are finding any silver at the casino then consider yourself lucky.
