Which would you rather have??

Would you rather have a common date Morgan/Peace Dollar or a 1 oz bar of silver? I have 2 -1 oz bars of silver (Englehard and JM). My buddy has a 1881 Morgan and a 1922 Peace dollar that he offered to trade for my 2 bars of silver. The coins are in what I would call fair condition. I know the coins have less silver in them, but the coins might be worth more due to collectibility.......Sooo, which would you rather have?

I'm not a coin collector as such, so I'd take the bullion ;)

Same here, I could be wrong, but bullion value should continue to climb faster than a common date coin's numismatic value. That's not to say it isn't great to have some old silver dollars. How do you put a price on history? Still, I won't bank on history.

I'd hold onto the bars. I mean, for trading purposes, it is much easier to figure things out. 1 troy ounce of .999 silver v. .77344 troy ounces of .900 silver.

I like morgans and peace dollars more, but its not an even trade unless you've got a retail location and can sell for ridiculous prices to unknowing customers.

Most folks here would be happy to trade you silver dollars for bars all day long.. and would probably even throw in some copper pennies.

I buy all of the junk silver I can, but always at the spot price of silver on the day. I recently bought 15 Morgan dollars dating between 1878 and 1921, all for the spot price on the day. Easy-peasy.

After I discovered the age of these coins, I figured I would focus a bit of time on filling out the years I'm missing and then selling them as a complete set for someone more interested in the nuministic aspect of having them.

If the mint marks are common on the silver dollars, then the silver bars are the better deal.

But, if the Morgan is a 1881 CC (Carson City Mint), seen on the reverse below wreath, then by far the morgan is worth more around $400. All other mint marks $20
Same goes for the 1922 Peace dollar , their are different variants of it. All are common accept for the 1922 High Relief Peace dollar. (most likley not) but good to check.

Yup, all depends on year, mm, and condition. If its just a common everyday morgan, bars are a no brainer.
