What's it worth?

Anyone have any round-about estimates on a 2009 Presidential Inaugural Medal Set? It's got 32.7g of 14k Gold..212g of Sterling Silver and 212g of Bronze. I know someone selling one for a (what I think is) rather low price..to my knowledge they only made 500 sets. And would this take forever to sell?

Where I do like the melt theory, I am curious if some Obama fanatic would shell out a little more for collectors sake..hmm, suppose I'll have to buy it and find out :D .

Touche, unless we are subjected to 4 more years  . I suppose the value would be far depleted by that time!

If he gets 4 more years, the economy and dollar will tank and the bullion value will skyrocket

I suppose that is definitely a way of looking at it..I did my math on this..as I'm fairly new, please correct me if I'm wrong:

The box set contains a 32.7g 14k Gold Medal, a 212g Sterling Silver Medal and a 212g Bronze Medal.

32.7 g gold:
32.7g (14k) gold x .583 (14k/24k conversion) = 19.0641
$1720 (spot gold) / 31.1 (grams/troy oz) = $55.30 (gold/gram price)
32.7g x $55.30 = $1808.31 for the gold.

212g silver
212g / 31.1g = 6.81oz
6.81oz x 35.51 (spot oz) = $241.82 for the silver

I have no idea on the bronze..35 bucks for collector??

1808.31 + 241.82 + 35 = $2085.13 current value from spot earlier today..am I about right on this?

Knock off about $20 or so from the silver spot value. Sterling is .925.

Other than the knock off of the .925, do you figure that's about right on the gold?

Correct calculation would be:
32.7g x 14 / 24 (gold percentage) /31.1 g/oz x $1719/oz = $1054.24 for the gold.

212g / 31.1g/oz x .925 (sterling purity) x $35.49/oz = $223.78 for the silver

Bronze @ 35 sounds high to me, but whatever you can get for it bronze is what $3/lb @ scrapyard? you have about 1/2 lb so its negligible, if you can find a collector who will pay $10 I'd consider it a lucky day.

$1054.24 (gold) + $223.78 (silver) + Negligible (bronze) = $1278.02 If you can get it for $1150 I'd call it a deal, you can build in your own markdown as you wish.

Good catch mflugher, I didn't notice that he used the full gram weight instead of the corrected # for 14k.

Yessir..rookie mistake, but luckily, I'm usually smart enough to ask questions before I fully commit to a mistake. Ahh the wonders of the internet and decent people :D !

"More than four", I hope. In San Quenten.

Back when I was in the Navy, we'd find scammers and con men hanging around the gate, waiting for gullible youngsters to fleece. Zero reminds me of them, even though they were all white back then.
