I dont think the SELLER is uninformed (besides being a bad speller). He is trying to pass off 2 46 and a non silver 42 with a faulty description.

You are not wrong. My point is that I think the seller knows exactly what he is doing and is counting on an uninformed BUYER.

Isn't 1942 Silver? i thought it was 42-45?

I agree with Z00. The seller has quite a bit of other coins listed so he either put up the wrong picture or is trying to be sneaky.

42 was the year of the switch.
The 42's without the large P, D, S over Monticello are NOT silver.

Some 42's are silver, some are not.

You can tell by the giant "P/D/S" on the back. If it's there it is silver.

Sent the nimrod a message. I did not infer that hes was deliberately dishonest, but I did suggest he invest in a quality guide on US coins. Also pointed out what the alloys were in his coins and where mint marks should be on war nicks.

It just goes to show you how easy it is to make money on ebay while having no idea what you are even selling. Damn, I feel stupid. I should be making more on there...lol

I think this happens quite often on ebay (people not knowing which are war nickels).
I wouldn't just assume that the seller did it on purpose.

I bid on and won a lot of 10 or 20 war nickles last year without really looking closely at the photo until after the auction was over. I really believed the seller made an honest mistake and we were able to cancel the sale on good terms after it turned out a bunch of them didn't have the large mint mark.

He put up the right picture. The seller is just being duplicitous, feeding on suckers. However, that type of sustenance will eat your soul.

well they were made during the "war". And the asking price doesn't scream fraud in MHO. If people see the pictures and think silver at this point it's not really anyone's fault but the bidder.

I must disagree.
1) The war was over in 1946
2) The term war nickels has long been accepted as relating to those nickels that were produced from silver rather than the strategic metals needed at that time.
3) The seller was caught out and called on his listing yet persists in trying to throw a cloud over the content of the listing in an attempt to drive the price up from uninformed buyers.

He gets no sympathy from me. He is not a new seller.

I just checked on the availabilty of the domain ebay-scammers.com
It is available and I am very tempted to buy it and set up a place where these type of sellers can be highlighted.

But the listing doesn't specify anything about silver now, so people shouldn't immediately assume these are silver nickels. At this point it would be similar to someone assuming all 1992+ half proofs are 90%...

Is this really an evil listing? I like to think this is a misinformed seller rather than an intentional scam artist.

First, the price is not 0.60 plus shipping. It is an auction which will go for $1.50+ per coin if people think it's REAL.
