I went to one of my dump banks to pick up some cash to go buy halves. As I walked in, the head teller said "I need to talk to you!"

I thought uh oh, was my last dump short???

She said I wasn't in trouble, but she had been waiting for me to come in. She said she had $110 in silver halves for me. This suprised me. She is one of the tellers that has refused to sell me silver out of her tray before. She said that her husband is out on disability and she doesn't have the money to buy them, so she saved them for me.

She was right. They were all silver. There were 51from 1964 and the balance were 40%. I figure that I got about $1000 worth at todays spot.

In order to use the money, that would imply that I need to liquidate it first . I'm not so sure about that.

I will do something nice for the teller.

Maybe it's a good idea to educate your tellers. I often been criticized for doing so.

But I think it's a good idea and I get a kick when an excited teller, all perky and erect, can hardly wait to tell me about a silver score, and they usually do want to sell.

If she was in that bad of shape financially why didn't she temporarily borrow the $110.00 from a realative or close freind telling them that she would double their money in one day? Then get the coins and run down to her nearest coin dealer and get the $1000.00 for the silver and then pay back the person she borrowed the money from $220.00 the next day. And she still would have been ahead $780.00

I would definitely be giving her at least a $100.00 gift card.

I was thinking this same thing a few hours after I read it. Even a payday loan would have put her ahead on this deal. I guess Knibloe was destined for it

Not everyone thinks like people on this board. They may know that the coins are worth more than face value, but they don't really connect how liquid the coins are, or what the total value is. I had a teller about a year ago sell me a bag of quarters that she said was full of silver, which it was. She said she would have bought it herself, but she did not have the money.

Need to hook the teller up with a $100 wal-mart card. It will help with the holidays and it seems to me to be "the right thing to do"

Agreed on all points. She could have bought them, and taken them down the road a block and sold them.

Getting back to Thogeys point about educating the tellers, I am mixed on it. These are people who handle money every day and yet do not care to take the small amount of additional effort to learn about what they hold in their hands. On the other hand the golden rule says "do unto others..." I am going to start another thread to explore this issue.

I will find out if I can give her a gift. If she can accept it, I will difinately get her a $100 card.

I would expect the bank to have rules against employees accepting gifts from customers but there are ways around that.

I have educated all the tellers and they all bring me stuff.

The latest neat find were two new $1 star notes with only a four digit serial number. What a find!
