$1,000 Bag of Quarters for Silver

Anyone have any luck searching bank bags of quarters for silver? Just went through a bag abd found zilch. Just $6.00 of 1776-1976, which I like to keep, so not a total loss I guess. Just wondering if I should keep the faith in bank bags.

Done OK with bags of nickels, havn't tried dimes yet.

Quarters are the hardest of all coins to sort for silver. Except maybe pennies. :D

My wife likes to collect the state/territory quarters, so I bought her a couple bags of quarters to finish off her books. In $2K worth of quarters I found one silver.

I get mixed bags off a lobby counter. Bags fill at 3500 coins and tend to average about $325 per bag. My average is 1 silver quarter per mixed bag. Much better than I expected in terms of quarters. I do a little better with dimes and nickels.

Average seems to be around 1 silver per $4,000 searched.

I have found silver dimes and halves from bank bags, never a quarter. Haven't searched nickle bags.

Holy cow, that is worse than I thought. I guess I have been really lucky. I have only done about 6 of these mixed bags so far from this new source so it must just be beginners luck!

Yep, the silver quarter still roaming wild is like looking for a Sasquatch in a bald guy convention. You will notice it right away, but you know it ain't gonna happen.

The lowly quarter, for the number minted, is the most circulated US coin made. This also makes it if most looked at. I only take quarters at the bank if there are no other coins available, except the crap called the modern dollar coin. Average: 1:16000, or one for every $4000 of quarters searched. Get some now. Get very bored. Enjoy.

Wow, so about one in 16,000 quarters is silver... glad I never tried that. Never going to now. What would you say the average is for dimes and halves?

Nope... no luck for me with quarters. Finally stopped searching them and moved on to greener pastures...

Got to consider that some banks that have bags available may want you to take all of them away, if you are able, including quarters. I have done that from time to time, and it really puts a smile on the faces of the vault tellers that get their space back. If your pick up bank suggests that you take all or nothing, the offer should be considered.

I'll second Galen, and i know you can't win if you don't play. But quarters are tough. I've never found silver in the boxes I take on impulse*

*At least the impulse buy can be returned after use. :)

I have sorted several $1000 boxes over the years and had no luck. Have not tried bags yet but I bet there would be little difference in the result.
