Any value to AU/BU halves?

This forum is for discussing hunting and collecting US and Canadian circulation Silver Bullion Coins, other types of minted bullion, and other types of precious and base metal investments other than Bullion Pennies and Nickels.

Any value to AU/BU halves?

Postby brian0918 » Fri Sep 28, 2012 5:21 pm

After the excitement yesterday with my first half box producing over 6 ounces of silver, I called around to all the nearest banks to see if they had any halves. One place said they had $70 in rolled halves, so I stopped by there, but as I was buying them, they mentioned that the halves were dropped off by a coin shop owner, so I wasn't expecting any silver. And there wasn't any. :(

But what I found was that most of them were very shiny proof-like in appearance (but no S-mint), even going all the way back to 1971, with little or no wear. There were also a lot of brand new looking 2002-2008 halves, which I know are lower mintage ones.

So are these worth anything significant? Would anyone here be interested in them?

If they are truly BU halves, you should be able to find a buyer. There are several coin dealers here who may be able to give you some advise on where and how to market them.
When I die, I want to go like Grandpa did. He died in his sleep..... Not screaming and hollering like all the passengers in his car.
