I have seen early (1920's)Cuban centavos 1, 2, 5 listed on ebay as silver but my world coin book which has been excellent so far shows them as copper - nickel. The coin itself shows what looks like a purity and weight marking. Is the silver content so low the book does not bother to list it, or am I missing something? Also whats a good reference for just world silver coins?

Stay with what the world coin book says. Those coins are CuNi. The 250 M you see on them is as far as I can tell is the percentage of Ni in them, 25%.

Post revolution coins that had Ag in them start at 10 Centavos. The 1,2 and 5C are base metal coins.

Cuban coins are very annoying when coming to silver content. The y look like silver, but are not. They are indeed CuNi.

Pretty sure Cuban coins that re silver are marked with their purity, .900 on the coin.

Thanks for the info guys, I have just never heard of a coin that has markings for purity and weight and was not a precious metal. I always thought a purity or weight marking made a coin almost an instant snap up at the coin store.
