Bi Centenial S mint Half...

I found a 1976 s minted bi centenial half. I looked at it and knew it was silver. So, I weighed it being pretty sure it was a 40%er. But, it came in at 11.75 grams. A 40% should be 11.50 grams...a 90% should be 12.50 grams...a CuNi clad should be 11.34grams.

I'm a little confused by the weight. Did they mint them as a 50% silver? I'm thinking one of you guys should be able to help me on this. Thanks!

Your scale sounds suspect.
Most of the little pocket scales are not super accurate.

I thought same thing at first. Then I weighed up 20 other 40%ers and they all weighed between 11.44 and 11.53 on the same scale. Which I figured was all in tolerance range.
