Ran across 2 old pour bars Saturday:

One was marked:
Phoenix Refining

The Other:
Gateway

Both were marked .999 Fin 10 oz troy. They were $2 over spot when silver was $23. The Gateway looked like a rectangle with rounded edges, almost like an egg with flat top and bottom.

Anyone ever heard of these old pour companies? And more importantly would you buy old pours from such obscure mints for $2 over?

It was a reliable and trustworthy dealer, said he shot them with one of the xray metal guns, and would accept back if not fake/pure, so these bars were good and is not being asked at this time

$2 over $23, cash and carry, sounds good to me Where else is anything available for $25 with no waiting games?

Dolomite over on BS would probably know more about the brands.

Gateway was once a refinery in Pittsburgh that dealt with photography recycling... tax issues and lawsuits had them close down in the 80's. There should be a stamped serial number (code) on the reverse which identifies which worker poured the bar and when. I need to ask the former owner again how to decode the number.

I have heard of the Phoenix Bar's but never dealt in them.

Would you see any collectable value in these? The names seem to be somewhat popular, would the old pour collectable community pay more for these like they do Engelhard, etc?

The same dealer had generic rounds/bars for $2 over as well so it wasnt matter of premium, but of on a resale value they would be worth more than your common stuff

The collectible value is around $2 over spot for both of them....even when silver is higher. Nothing really special about either one.
