There have been "in app currencies" for 10+ years. I don't see a differentiator here other than Amazon is bigger than most other companies that have done this.
They can ONLY be used by Amazon, so they aren't "currency" they are "in app currencies". The "app" being "Amazon" (and probably limited there also I didn't read the whole thing).
