No doubt modern numismatic boosted by the ridiculous number of "end of the penny" coins made.

"Sales of the Gold Maple Leaf coins declined by 29.8% to 883,048 ounces, while Silver Maple Leaf sales declined by 21.6% to 18.1 million. In late 2011, the RCM reintroduced the Platinum Maple Leaf, which saw total sales of 34,650 ounces in 2012 compared to just 5,000 ounces in 2011."

Platinum sales seriously up on re-introduction, but suprisingly weak sales on gold and silver maples, which included five of the six bullion animal coins (I believe they would be cougar, moose, grizzly bear, antelope, and either wood bison or wolf)

Even though most of 2012 was a bear market, it did not intice people to buy more silver and gold maples.

Side note: It appears that they melted 1.274 billion circulation coins (copper, nickel, and cupronickel)
