How much of a market is there for kilo gold bars?

How much of a market is there for kilo gold bars?

Not that I have that many FRNs to spend at this point, but I was just doing my daily drool on APMEX and got to wondering, how big of a market is there for kilo-sized gold bars? Who would hold kilo bars for what reason? I can see how it would be a very compact store of wealth now and after TSHTF but in terms of fungibility, there are limited options for trade unless you're going for a lot of land as a trade. Just curious to know what you guys think.

It depends on what circles you are trading in; guys like us can't stack kilos, but if you're on Wall Street, on in City of London, Hong Kong, Zurich....

I bought a pretty Credit Suisse kilo at the start of the 1st Gulf War, 1990. I hung onto it til the novelty wore off and sold it to my lcs. Walked in, walked out with a check. Nowadays they probably want to see the xray results before parting with the fiat. And that, as I see it, is the deal buster for any big bar...au or ag.

Price check August 1990: around $11k :(

ya I wouldn't guess. there would be a huge market for them in everyday dealings but if you can get one whynot? I know I'd love to have that big block of AU in my stack- and like already mentioned if yiu need a large swap then you have something

Provident and Apmex both have buy prices listed...so they wouldn't be THAT hard to get rid of.

Exactly. There may not be many retail customers who want kilo gold bars, but it's not hard to sell fine gold...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

Yeah I had 3 of these, traded them, but those silver kilo's were nice.
