I thought batteries might be a good use for the metals we own. Maybe a lot of work trying to build something that can bought already manufactured professionally. What other things can the silver, zinc, copper, nickel we own be used to make something utilitarian out of?

I can make sheet and wire. Have often wondered what effect pure silver spark plug wires would do.

Also have wanted to make a scale maille hauberic using copper cents for the scales, you know "inflation armor", :lol

I used a few cents zinc and copper alternating with water on babywipes in between each one and was able to produce a few volts measured on the multimeter.

Have considered using copper cents 2 layers deep to line a closet for EMP protection for electronics if it comes to that.

A little off thread but we had a customer looking to replace their bleach piping and they wanted pipe material recommendations....from best to worst skipping many....titanium, gold, silver,.....PVC sch80....CPVC....of course they wanted to go the CPVC route which is only good for a few years....goobermint people....surprised they didn't want to use copper piping....another customer used stainless steel...against our recommendation of the sch80...the stainless lasted 3 days...

I've saved ALL my Canadian Stainless pennies and now have several hundred I've wanted to do the same with. Got any plans or images of some ideas?

Used to be an SCA-type myself. I had a similar idea a few years back but using brass game tokens. I never made a full garment, just a couple of small samples. The result looked pretty cool, but was heavy as all get-out, and pretty hard on my Whitney punch. The guy at http://www.theringlord.com has some scales that make really cool looking armor. Maybe if you built a roller to thin the pennies out (like the elongated embossed ones you can make at carnivals) it would be a lot easier on your hole-puncher, and would result in lighter armor like what the Ring Lord has.

They make glass drain piping and fittings, I have seen it in chemistry labs.

I have a rolling mill I use to make my bars with. I have elongated a couple cents, but would have to anneal them all first if doing a run like that.

Tinfoil hats will be obsolete once people start coating them with gold and silver. I'm thinking first coat the entire thing with gold to keep it close to your brain for protection, and then coat the top/outside with silver to make it the most reflective so the gold doesn't have to work as hard. The nice thing is that you can get metals so thin that these would be cheap to make, and you could probably sell them for a good deal of profit.

It might also be a good idea to redefine the hat shape. I'm all for newspaper pirate hats, but for effectiveness I'm thinking a helmet design would be better at keeping wayward transmissions from sneaking in, or in case you wanted to lay down and take a nap to keep your dreams from being infiltrated.

Now the helmet would have to look stylish so as not to immediately make you look like a nutjob in public, because let's face it, appearances matter, especially when trying to woo the fairer sex. The last thing you want is a perfect date to go awry because you wore the wore the wrong reflective gear, and the helmet would need to be open enough to keep your face from being hidden so you don't look like a troublemaker without letting those stray messages in. It's a fine line, and I'll have to defer to the experts on the design.

An alternative to this could be the metal plated body suit, which would also go a long way to protect you from those soundwave weapons sometimes used for crowd control. I'm thinking those suits would need additional accoustic lining inside, and would be for the higher end customer. For those who would rather keep their mobility we could offer a non-accoustic version for in-home use, or maybe even a metal plated tent for those living off the grid.
