Just saw these stories the past couple days...the first link was on Coinflation (today, I think) and the second one was actually in my former hometown of Owensboro, Ky., this week!

Looks like we have Illinois, Kentucky, Nebraska and Oklahoma so far!

We get them in NE every year. Has to be the same person (persons), but there usually are a few each year. If we did not have that happen some year around here, that would be news.

EDIT: Just read the news story, That is a dinky one (1/10'th oz). Usually there are a couple 1 ounce coins dropped. At least they were smart enough to drop a slabbed coin. There have simply been 'loose' gold dropped. I would be worried that it would get missed, and simply dropped into some coin counter. Hmmm, thinking of that, it would not be out of the realm of thought of having a happy coin-star find, or bank counter reject find. But I would be that SA looks pretty closely for silver or gold around here, because it happens every year.

I just realized there was a photo of the note enclosed with the gold coin in Owensboro--pretty cool message!

You know this made me wonder how many ASEs or other silver they might take in and not realize what they have. I was thinking of dropping an ASE on my next shopping trip but it will probably be lost in the shuffle.

Funny when I do a search for these I type in "valuable coins donated to Salvation Army" and thought I would find some silver by now.
