Somebody has been a busy little beaver this past year! It's amazing how Walkers can find their way back into circulation--Mercs also.

curious as to why you do so many dimes instead of just more halves. I love doing dimes myself but cannot justify dime boxes compared to the silver production of halves.

For the final 9 months of 2013 I was finding $11.74 worth of silver per $1,000 dimes searched and $11.59 worth of silver per $1,000 in halves searched.

Obviously I did not continue going heavy dimes those last 9 months for the extra 15 cents per $1,000 searched. There were factors involved like ease of acquiring, ease of dumping (very big reason), using my Ryedale to sort them, etc...., but I also knew that I was not hurting myself by keeping my dime searching at a high level instead of adding more halves.

Just wondering how many banks do you work with. I know the number I work and I don't come close to that kinds of coins.

Nick,
You are the King of roll searchers here on Realcent (at least those who post).

I have a question also. What is the average dollar amount you lose when you dump? Especially on halves.

I had real troubles in the begining with counters ALWAYS being short when I dumped. I complained very politely with the Branch Manager and we split the difference on what I received and what I said I had for a 3 month period. Then she made a big mistake by saying I could roll the coins if I wanted and they would give me credit at the window for what I had rolled. Eureka! I roll the coins put them back into the boxes and presto! I have immediate credit for what I say is there.

They re-roll a lot of the halves and sell them to anyone that comes in and asks for halves  They told me my rolls have all been correct that they have re-rolled. It takes me 30 minutes to search, roll and box $500 in halves. I have a pretty good system. And I cut my own paper for the rolls so the cost is almost nothing to do it this way.

If it wasn't for re-rolling, I would probably just buy silver at my LCS or here on RC. Between the inaccuracy of the coin counters and my time, it wouldn't be worth my while to search rolls. And my average per box is just over 2 dimes per box and just over 2 halves per box with 1 in 7 being a 90% half.

Nice work. Are you getting rolls of dimes or are you getting customer return bags?

Thanks for sharing Nick. Impressive year. Here are my totals for the year.

34 boxes of dimes:
24 keepers

25 boxes of nickels:
31 - warnicks

I search ~500 in pennies per week but i don't keep numbers on them.

Thats great. I like the meticulous bookkeeping. Last year I did just over 1 million in halfs but its going to take a while to put it all in a excel file. I do have this year mapped out a lot better.
From the begining of the year till now I found

Ben Franklin 1954 - 1
Ben Franklin 1963 - 1
Kennedy 1964 - 15
Kennedy 1965 - 20
Kennedy 1966 - 16
Kennedy 1967 - 36
Kennedy 1968 - 17
Kennedy 1969 - 8
Plus a bunch of foreign that I just throw into a container. One of these days I look thru it.
I searched thru $54,000 in halfs (8K every monday, Wed and Fri)
